This Module's Lesson is divided into 3 sections:
|
Dont Be Tricked! - Read Carefully
Believe it or not, the HSA will try to "trick" you on some of the questions. Even if you know the material, it is still possible to get a question wrong if you don't read carefully. Here are the common ways students can be "tricked" on the HSA. Let's see how you would do!
Continuing Patterns
In many cases, when you are asked to continue of the pattern, you will need to find more than the NEXT term. Students will often choose the next term as their answer, but not realize that the question actually wants the "10th term". Click on the question below to look a few examples.
|
The Labels on Graphs
When reading a graph, it is VERY important to look at the axis scales and labels. Sometimes what may look like 2 "blocks" can really represent $20,000. Click on the question below to view a few of these examples and practice reading graphs.
|
Using "Not"
Although it is just a little three letter word, the word "NOT" will change the whole answer to the problem. If you don't read carefully, you could easily select an answer on question you know how to do, but get it wrong because of the "not". Click the question below to view some examples of this.

Practice Makes Perfect
There are two free websites that provide many HSA practice quizzes. You will spend a significant time completing the various quizzes listed in this section, as well as some additional ones you want to practice.
You will show evidence of completing the quizzes by taking a screen capture in a Word Document. If you don't know how to do this, please watch the brief video to right. As you complete the quizzes below, take a screen capture of the final screen. Click HERE for an example. |

Your Turn as the Teacher
It is a proven fact that one of the best ways to learn something is to TEACH it to someone else. The attached Grade This! Assignment gives you a chance to look at the work of another students on 10 HSA questions. Now, this students does answer some of them right, but it will be up to you to determine how many.
